Compassion Poster Assignment

We had to create a two dimensional generic image that reflects an admirable social attribute such as, but not limited to, one of the following examples of the theme: Honesty, Integrity, Compassion, Trust, Friendship, etc. I chose to do mine on compassion and designed it in Adobe Illustrator CS3. We were to put our knowledge to work in creating a general decorative graphic image utilizing as many of the elements, principles and techniques as possible but to remember that the key to good graphic design is simplicity. The image could be made up of text and images, but could be made up of all text or all images. The key factors that the instructor was looking for were: Elements of point, line, shape, volume, Principles of balance, emphasis and unity, Techniques of proportion, contrast, rhythm, illusion, color, texture and proximity.

Design of Unity (shown above, red background)

This assignment was for my Principles and Elements of Graphic Design class. The instructor gave us a list of unrelated items that we had to go on a scavenger hunt for and then we were to place them to create unity. Then we took a digital image of it to present to the class and turn in. This was my favorite assignment to do. I created a woman, in a hurry, thinking of her husband and her purse is in her hand.

Create A New Typeface (shown above)

In my typography class we had to create a new typeface from groups of letters that were provided by the instructor. I created the Native Feather design in Adobe Illustrator CS3 and it is based from the Myriad Pro typeface. We were not requested to do the whole alphabet because we did not have enough time to get it finished. I amy try to finish this typeface eventually on my own, but am still not sure of it yet.

New 27th Letter - English Alphabet (shown left)

In our typography class we had to create a 27th letter of the alphabet and it had to represent a sound of two letters that are currently used today in the English language. I chose to use the "ch" sound as in the word "church." I hand drew this assignment and worked with french curves to make my bowls which was difficult, but I didn't have a compass which would have made it a lot easier to complete. The first image is of the capital letter and the second image to the left is of the lowercase letter.
