Balance Between Positive and Negative Space
It is impossible for a design to exist without positive and negative space. Objects are greatly influenced by the space around them. When the positive space (the area the eye perceives to be the object of attention) is in complete balance with the negative space (the area perceived to be without content) are in perfect balance the mind can become confused and has trouble distinguishing what is actually positive and what is negative space. Our assignment was to create some interesting studies in positive and negative space.
Uninterrupted Rhythm
We had to show our interpretation of uninterrupted rhythm or rhythm without variation. Our assignment was to use vertical lines and dots on a page to establish a steady rhythm with within an illustration. I used Adobe Illustrator CS3 to create this design.
